Foster A Shy Dog Today
 FOSTER A SHY DOG
Give a shy pup the chance to blossom
At CCHS, we take in dogs from all backgrounds—some arrive scared, timid, or unsure. These shy dogs thrive in foster homes, where they can build trust and confidence at their own pace.
Fostering a shy dog is incredibly rewarding, but it can be challenging without understanding their unique needs. With patience, consistency, and care, you can help transform a frightened dog into a happy, trusting companion.
 Tips for Fostering Shy Dogs:
✅ Build Trust Slowly
Focus on positive reinforcement and calm, consistent interactions. Never force attention or interaction—let the dog come to you when they feel ready.
✅ Create a Safe Space.
Provide a quiet, cozy area where the dog can feel secure.
✅ Never Force Interaction
Take things slowly let them explore new people and environments at their own pace.
✅ Assume They Are a Flight Risk: Shy or fearful dogs often try to escape when startled.
Always consider them a flight risk:
✅ Keep a leash on them inside the home during the adjustment period.
✅Use a secure, properly fitted collar or harness—preferably both (a harness and martingale collar).
✅Never leave them outside unsupervised.
✅ Routine Builds Confidence
A regular routine helps foster a sense of safety and predictability.
✅ Patience is Everything
Trust builds over time. Sitting on the floor, staying calm, and using a high-value treat can help build a connection.
