A Difficult Week at CCHS: Intake Closed as We Care for Sick and Vulnerable Animals
URGENT UPDATE FROM CCHS
Temporary Pause on Intake Continues. Here’s What’s Happening
We want to share an important update about what’s happening inside the shelter right now. Over the past few days, our team has taken in 33 cats (and counting, some pictured above), from a single home. This situation is not related to cruelty or neglect, but it has placed a sudden and significant strain on our space and resources. These cats are very timid and need to be handled very carefully. It will take a lot of love and work before these cats can be made available for adoption.
Some of these cats have tested positive for ringworm, which requires careful isolation, treatment, and additional sanitation protocols. At the same time, we are caring for cats battling pan‑leukopenia, and a group of puppies who arrived with parvo, all serious medical situations that demand time, attention, and safe separation.
Because of all this happening at once, we have officially run out of space. To protect the animals already in our care and ensure we can treat these medical cases properly, CCHS must temporarily pause all dog and cat intake.
We may also need to pause spay/neuter services until we can stabilize the situation and safely reopen those areas of the shelter.
How You Can Help Right Now
1. Adopt, we truly need the space.
Our adoption desk remains open, and finding homes for the animals is the fastest way to relieve pressure. If you’ve been considering adoption, this is a moment where it makes a real difference. The animals available for adoption are safely separated from those battling illness and adopters are safe to come to the lobby at CCHS.
2. Donate, any amount helps.
With ringworm treatment, parvo care, pan‑leukepenia support, and the sudden arrival of 30+ cats, our medical and cleaning supplies are being used at an extraordinary rate. Your donation today directly supports the animals who need us most.

CCHS Policy Changes
CCHS will be instituting a few ongoing policy changes. When dogs come in for meet‑and‑greets during the adoption process, dogs will be required to be current on vaccinations and pet parents will be required to wear protective booties as they walk through the building on their way to our Bark Park. This measure helps protect both the visiting dogs and the dogs currently in our care by reducing the risk of spreading illnesses. Additionally, visitors picking up food from the CCHS Pet Pantry will have their supplies brought directly out to their vehicle rather than coming inside the shelter. These changes will remain in effect moving forward and allow us to continue offering essential services while keeping our animals, community safe, and staff safe.
We’ll Keep You Updated
Intake will remain closed for the time being. We will reopen as soon as it is safe and responsible to do so.
Thank you for standing with us through moments like this. Your support is the reason we can respond to emergencies, care for sick animals, and continue saying “yes” when the community needs us.
