About Adopting

We consider the adoption of any pet to be a life-long commitment of time, affection, money, and responsibility. The animal’s welfare is our foremost consideration. Many things are taken into consideration when matching a cat or dog with an owner so that we can make the right match for both you and the animal.

 We require a pre-adoption conversation with an Adoption Counselor to ensure that both you and the cat, dog, or small animal are a good match.

 You must be at least 18 years old with proof of age.

 You must sign an adoption contract and agree to the terms of the contract.

 If you live in an apartment, rent a lot, or live with parents, you must get prior approval verified by the Adoption Counselor.

 You must consider what it might cost to feed, house, train and provide medical care for your cat, dog, or small animal**.

 Adoption Counselor’s strive to get to know you the best we can. Together, we can find you an animal match to adopt, whether the same day or in the future.

 Dog meets are required for everyone potentially adopting a dog that has dog(s) in the home already.  Owners bringing their dogs to CCHS for meets must bring vaccination records to ensure everyone’s safety.

All of CCHS’ animals are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They receive all vaccinations that are age appropriate to them and have 24PetWatch Microchips. The cats are tested for Feline Leukemia. Any dog or cat over 3 months of age receives a Rabies vaccine.
