Are You Ozzy’s Forever Foster?
Meet Ozzy: The Distinguished Gentleman Who’s Ready for his Best Chapter
Some dogs arrive at the shelter with a certain… vibe. Ozzy? He’s got the vibe of a retired gentleman who has seen some things, earned his opinions, and would very much like a soft place to nap. The Chautauqua County Humane Society is looking for the right person to be his Forever Foster.
At 14 years old, Ozzy fits a few classic stereotypes and wears them proudly. His eyesight isn’t what it used to be, his hearing is selective at best, but his sense of smell? That thing is a finely tuned instrument. If there were an Olympic event for snack‑seeking, he’d be taking home the gold medal.
Ozzy may be struggling with housebreaking or dealing with a bit of incontinence. That’s why doggie diapers exist and Ozzy is not the least bit embarrassed to rock one. He’s secure in who he is.
What Ozzy really wants is comfort. Whether he’s curled up in his crate or stretched out on his Kuranda bed, he just wants a cozy spot to rest. And hasn’t he earned that? Fourteen years of life, love, loss, and resilience. A soft bed is the least he could ask for.
Despite his age, Ozzy still has plenty of good habits. He knows his basic commands, walks beautifully on a leash, and approaches the world with a calm, steady presence. He is, however, not a fan of wintry weather or rain. If you’re looking for a dog to join you on winter hikes or rainy‑day adventures, Ozzy would like to decline. He’ll be inside, warm, dry, and judging your life choices. He’s also not a hugger. Some dogs melt into your arms, Ozzy is more of a “pat my head, respect my bubble” kind of guy. And honestly, we admire that about him.
Ozzy’s journey to CCHS was long and heartbreaking. After his owner passed away, he was taken to a shelter in Louisiana. Because of his age, he was at risk of being euthanized. A rescue transport stepped in, believing that with more eyes on him, he’d find a home quickly. But so far, that quick adoption hasn’t happened.
And that’s the part that tugs at us. Ozzy is a good dog, a gentle, quirky, dignified soul who deserves to spend his remaining years in a home, not a shelter. He doesn’t need much. A warm bed. A predictable routine. A human who understands that love looks different for every dog, and that sometimes the quietest companions leave the biggest marks on our hearts.
Ozzy has been waiting a long time for someone to see him and become his Forever Foster. Maybe that someone is you. Call 716-665-2209 x200 or email frontdesk@chqhumane.org today to inquire about Ozzy.
