CCHS joins ASPCA Rescue Effect – Fee Waived Adoptions 8/8/26

The Chautauqua County Humane Society is joining hundreds of shelters and rescues across the country to participate in the ASPCA’s national Rescue Effect campaign, a movement dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of pet adoption and the impact it has on animals everywhere. As part of this effort, CCHS will be offering fee‑waived adoptions this Saturday, August 8, from 11 AM to 3 PM.

Across the United States, shelters are facing overwhelming numbers, with nearly six million dogs and cats entering shelters and rescues in 2025. Here at CCHS, we are feeling that pressure too. We are currently at capacity with 16 dogs, 43 cats in the building, and another 40 animals in foster care. Every adoption makes a meaningful difference not only for the pet who goes home, but for the next animal who needs a safe place to land.

The Rescue Effect campaign runs from August through October and is designed to help organizations increase adoptions, engage their communities, and create more second chances for animals in need. This year, the ASPCA is providing $2 million in grants to support shelters and rescues across the country, helping cover adoption fees and strengthen operations so more pets can find loving homes.

Fee‑waived adoption events like ours are part of that mission. When you adopt, you create a ripple effect of kindness: you give one animal a home, and you open space for another who needs help.

If you’re considering adoption, this Saturday is the perfect time to visit, meet the animals, and learn how you can be part of the Rescue Effect. To learn more about CCHS, visit chqhumane.org, and to explore the ASPCA’s Rescue Effect campaign, visit aspca.org/therescueeffect.
