Dog Play Group is a wonderful program offered for our dogs at CCHS. The shelter dogs are grouped according to play style, not breed or size, to promote dog-dog play and socialization. Each group is allowed out in our Bark Park every day, 2 times a day, to let the dogs relieve themselves and play, play, play. Play Groups helps to reduce stress, the dogs learn “doggy manners” and get the exercise that walking alone can’t provide.
Interested in Helping?
If you would like to help with this innovative program please consider volunteering. We need help getting the dogs to and from the outside play area, monitoring the play group and keeping the yard clean by scooping the poop (it’s a dirty job, but has to be done). This is all done under the guidance of a Canine Activity Specialist or specially trained volunteer. It is fun to watch them run and wrestle, but most of all you are helping them become more adoptable by being more relaxed. This will make them more appealing to adopters and reduce their average stay at the shelter.
Please consider this fun, exciting program. The time commitment is approximately 1 ½ hours for each session and you can sign up for more than one session! Just fill out a volunteer application and you can drop it off in person, email it or mail it in. Someone will contact you as soon as we receive your application and will set up a time to come in and be properly trained, by our Canine Activity Specialist.
