CCHS ANNOUNCES 2ND CHANCES THRIFT STORE CLOSING

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (January 11, 2024) The Chautauqua County Humane Society’s 2nd  Chances Thrift Store, 707 Fairmount Avenue in Jamestown will be closing its doors in February. Rising costs and significant shelter projects on the horizon for the Chautauqua County Humane Society (CCHS), are the main factors for the closure. CCHS Executive Director Kellie Roberts said, “We have considered all options for the store over the past two years before coming to this difficult conclusion. Ultimately, the two most significant deciding factors were that the net income had declined considerably since the pandemic and that the CCHS board decided that the organization needed to consolidate its resources for significant shelter projects that are on the horizon.” Roberts took a moment to recognize those who kept 2nd Chances going through the years, “We are thankful to the employees and volunteers who have served the organization well; we have been lucky to have all of them working as part of the CCHS team and thank them for their dedication. We also thank our patrons who have supported the animals by shopping and donating to 2nd Chances.”

2nd Chances Thrift Store will continue regular hours of operation from 10am to 6pm Monday through Saturday and everything in the store will be 50% off until further notice. 2nd Chances will no longer be accepting donations. Watch for updates regarding the closing of 2nd Chances on Chqhumane.org as well as The Chautauqua County Humane Society and 2nd Chances Thrift Store Facebook pages.

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY SEASON OF HOPE A SUCCESS

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (January 2, 2024) 70 pets went home during the Chautauqua County Humane Society’s 6th annual Season of Hope, presented by Happy Hounds Hotel and Day Spa. 57 cats and 13 dogs met their adoptive families during the campaign which ran from November 24th to December 23rd. CCHS Fundraising and Communication Director Brian Papalia said that the success of the Season of Hope was made possible by our sponsors, a pair of  very kind donors, and the Bissell Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters which ran through a portion of the campaign. Papalia said “It was so wonderful to see these pets go to their new homes. One story that really stands out is a now three-month-old kitten named Miracle Max who came to the shelter in rough shape on October 6th and thanks to the CCHS Fostering and Clinic programs was able to be adopted as a healthy kitten.”  CCHS thanks Media One Radio Group, Shults Auto Group, Supportive Divorce Solutions, Kinetic by Windstream, and the Chautauqua Mall for supporting the Season of Hope.
