CCHS Participates In Summer Bissell Empty The Shelters Campaign

Monday, July 17, 2023

BISSELL Pet Foundation Partners with MetLife Pet Insurance for Summer National “Empty the Shelters” July 17-31

CCHS will reduce adoptions fees as one part of 335+ shelters participating nationwide

Jamestown, NY. 7/17/23—BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, is excited to announce it will team up with MetLife Pet Insurance for the foundation’s upcoming “Empty the Shelters” reduced-fee adoption event. With the shared goal of helping pets find and stay in loving homes, this collaboration will save lives by expanding the foundation's reach to include more shelters across the country. From July 6 to July 31, BISSELL Pet Foundation's Summer National “Empty the Shelters” will occur at more than 335 shelters in 44 states with pets available for adoption for just $50 or less, including Chautauqua County Humane Society.

The Chautauqua County Humane Society will participate July 17-31, 2023, at our 2825 Strunk Road location, offering fee waived adoptions for available shelter pets.  We do have a limit of two animals, if someone is interested in adopting more than two the standard fee will apply to those extra animals. All interested adopters can find more details online at Chqhumane.org.

Since the 2016 inception of BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters,” nearly 158,000 pets at 669 animal welfare organizations in 49 states and Canada have received second chances. An average of 1,200 shelter pets are adopted each day during each quarterly national event. Through this partnership and continued support, the foundation is looking forward to reaching more pets in more shelters and communities during this upcoming event.

“We are excited to team up with MetLife Pet Insurance to offer 30 days of pet insurance at no cost to the adopter, as well as the opportunity to purchase an annual pet insurance policy, which could make a difference in helping adopters deal with their pet’s unexpected illness or injury," said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. "Veterinary costs add up quickly, and too often, pet owners forgo care or surrender their beloved pets when they can't afford treatment. This collaboration could help to enable more pets in more communities to be adopted through 'Empty the Shelters' and can help facilitate adopters seeking treatment to keep their pets healthy and in their new homes.”

This is the CCHS’s second time participating, Director of Fundraising and Communication Brian Papalia said, “Everyone at CCHS is so excited to be a part of Empty the Shelters again.  During May’s Empty the Shelters event we saw adoptions nearly double what they usually are during that same time frame. We are waiving adoption fees through the end of this month to hopefully see the same results.  While we are waiving adoption fees, we do want to stress that all standard adoption procedures apply.”

BISSELL Pet Foundation and the Chautauqua County Humane Society urge families to do their research about the pet they are interested in adopting, as well as adoption requirements. 2023 Pennies 4 Paws Campaign Is A Major Success

Thursday, June 1, 2023

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (May 25, 2023) The pennies have been tallied and the Chautauqua County Humane Society (CCHS) is proud to announce that we reached our Pennies 4 Paws goal of 2 million pennies ($20,000) and exceeded it! The final tally for the 2023 campaign is 2,560,300 pennies ($25,603). CCHS Director of Fundraising and Communications Brian Papalia said, “We are so grateful to the community for stepping up to help the animals that rely on our services. We especially want to thank The Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association ($1,650), Sarah McKernan’s Daycare ($930), Lakewood Apothecary  ($498), and Katherine Beaver’s 6th Grade Class at Randolph Elementary for supporting pennies. It was a community effort that made Pennies 4 Paws such a success, “We had wonderful donors create a matching fund for parts of the campaign, Media support from Media One Group Radio, WNY News Now, and The Post Journal, and sponsorship support from Happy Hounds Hotel and Day Spa, The Shults Auto Group, and Chautauqua Mall.”

28 Animals Go Home Through The Bissell Pet Foundations Empty The Shelters

Thursday, June 1, 2023

CCHS Adopts 28 Pets During BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Record-Setting “Empty the Shelters”

The country’s largest funded adoption event found homes for nearly 18,000 shelter pets

Jamestown, NY. 6/1/2023— Chautauqua County Humane Society announces 28 adoptions during its participation in BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Spring National “Empty the Shelters event. From May 1 - 15, a total of 17,792 pets were adopted from 364 shelters in 45 states. The Foundation partnered with Dogtopia, the nation’s largest and fastest-growing pet services franchise, to make this event possible in more shelters than ever before.

CCHS participated from May 5th through May 15th and offered fee waived adoptions for pet adoptions including dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens and small critters.

“Empty the Shelters” is BISSELL Pet Foundation’s largest initiative and continues to grow each year to provide critical relief to overcrowded shelters. Since the event’s inception in 2016, more than 140,000 pets have found loving homes through this lifesaving event. BISSELL Pet Foundation provides grants for each adoption - $100 per dog and $50 per cat - allowing shelters to reduce adoption fees to $50 or less. Pets must be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before being adopted out, an additional cost savings for the family, making the choice to adopt even more affordable.

“We are truly grateful to every adopter who opened their heart and home to a pet during a time when shelters nationwide are experiencing unprecedented challenges.” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. "Increased owner surrenders due to evictions and housing restrictions, lack of access to veterinary care and financial challenges brought on by inflation are contributing to increased length of stays for many highly adoptable pets. Our partnership with Dogtopia allowed us to host this event at more organizations than ever before, helping nearly 1,200 pets to be adopted daily at 364 organizations in 45 states—a new record for our 'Empty the Shelters' event! We are thrilled so many pets found loving homes thanks to this lifesaving partnership!"

This was the first time CCHS participated in Empty The Shelters and Fundraising and Communication Director Brian Papalia said “Empty The Shelters was a great experience as we saw double the number of animals go home during that time period than would normally have. The Bissell Pet Foundation has brought a great opportunity to help the animals and we intend to partner with them again.”

CCHD AND CCHS ANNOUNCE April 22 ANIMAL RABIES IMMUNIZATION CLINIC

Wednesday, March 22, 2023
CCHD AND CCHS ANNOUNCE AN UPCOMING ANIMAL RABIES IMMUNIZATION CLINIC
The Chautauqua County Health Department has announced a free rabies vaccination clinic to be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023. This clinic will take place from 10 am to 12 pm at the Village of Falconer Highway Building at 1 Coleson Drive in Falconer, N.Y. The clinic will be a drive-in clinic and animals must be pre-registered to receive Rabies vaccinations. Vaccinations will be provided free of charge to all dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets three months of age and older.
Distemper shots and/or Microchips will also be available, at no cost. #VaccinatedandLoved
The Chautauqua County Humane Society (CCHS) and the Chautauqua County Health Department will co-sponsor the event.
There are a limited number of spots available at the clinic, so pet owners should pre-register online as soon as possible. If you register but decide not to attend the event, please cancel your appointment so the spot is available for another pet. You can cancel appointments via the confirmation email you receive when you register or call CCHD at (716) 753-4567. Walk-ins may not be accepted.
At the clinic, vehicles will enter from South Work St. onto Coleson Dr. near the front of Tops Markets. Pet owners will stay in their vehicles with their pets. Pet owners must bring previous rabies vaccination records for each animal receiving a shot to ensure proper and effective vaccination; clinic staff will confirm previous rabies vaccination records. All dogs must be on a leash. All cats must be in a carrier. Animal handlers will transport animals from the vehicle to the veterinarian for vaccination.
New York State Public Health Law requires each dog, cat, and domesticated ferret over the age of four months to be vaccinated against rabies. County residents are encouraged to be responsible pet owners by having their pets vaccinated.
Rabies is a very serious disease of warm-blooded animals caused by a virus. Raccoons, bats, skunks, and foxes are common disease carriers. The virus is transmitted to humans and animals through saliva and it can enter the body from a bite, scratch, scrape or open cut. The rabies virus infects the central nervous system and can cause brain swelling and ultimately death within days of the onset of symptoms.
For more information about the clinic and rabies in general, visit www.chqgov.com/environmental-health/rabies-prevention

or contact the Chautauqua County Health Department at (716) 753-4481.
